[lang_en]Aaron Stelson, a graduate student in the Department of Urban Studies and Planning, is investigating the decision of Lawrence residents to either stay in Lawrence or leave. Aaron recently distributed 800 surveys to current and former Lawrence residents. Preliminary results of the survey suggest that inexpensive housing and, to a lesser extent, characteristics of an ethnic enclave, such as the use of Spanish language, tie people to Lawrence. However, a high crime rate and poor city schools may drive people away. The results of this survey will be used to inform the practices of local community-based organizations.
